In that case, display devices use an algorithm to repeat specific frames to make the frame rate compatible with their refresh rate. The frame rate is an arbitrary number of frames (in a filming system), captured or drawn in a second.įor instance, the standard rate for recording films is 24 fps, even though it's not the maximum refresh rate of a modern TV. Refresh rate is the number of times a display device refreshes an image in one second. The refresh rate is different from the frame rate, though. There are screens with higher refresh rates like 120Hz or 144Hz, but 60Hz is the standard for most display devices. Animated Horse (12 drawings per second) by Janke, Licensed under CC BY-SA 2.5 This article by Paul Bakaus does a great job of explaining it. To the human eyes, any frequency above 12Hz is perceived as motion. The average display device refreshes the screen sixty times per second (60Hz). And we'll get into lots of actions in the end. You'll have a new perspective on how web pages change. Trust me, knowing these theories won't be without a reward! Michael Jordan said, "Keep the fundamentals down, and the level of everything you do will rise." There are many theories to cover here, and I hope don't you mind that. However, the high-level concepts are the same across all browsers. I'll focus on Google Chrome for this writing. In this guide, I'll explain how browsers turn code into pixels and how we can work with them to deliver a delightful user experience. When a page doesn't respond swiftly to user interactions or has jerky movements, something must be off.Īnd it's usually owing to the browser's main thread being so busy that it can't deliver frames on time (more on this below). In the recording below, I'm moving the mouse over the timeframe to replay the text selection: You'll see an overview like the one above.Įven when you select a piece of text, new frames are displayed as you select more letters and lines. Then, scroll the page for a few seconds, and stop the recording. While in the DevTools, go to the Performance panel, and click on the record button. I used Google Chrome DevTools to create the above recording. Generated frames during a few seconds of scrollingĪnd as you can see, each frame was displayed for 16.7ms (60 fps). The image below shows the sequential frames produced and displayed during a few seconds of scrolling. When you scroll through a page, the browser displays off-screen areas of the document as you scroll down (or up). Of course, a frame stays on the screen if there's no change. These changes could be as simple as adding or removing a element or changing the styles of a button.īased on W3C frame timing guidelines, the web browser has to be able to display sixty frames per second (60 fps). In fact, they are sequential images displayed rapidly to give us a perception of motion or simply reflect a change.Įvery time JavaScript code changes the page, an area in the previous image is invalidated, and the browser draws a new one. Scrolling, pinch zooming, text selection, and even hovering over a button are technically animations and work similarly. We watch various motions every time we're on a web page.Īnd it's not only JavaScript or CSS animations that I'm talking about. What if I told you that web pages were interactive animations played back by your web browser?

Silver screen paint projector1/31/2024 The sheet was pulled down over the edge and stapled into the wood strips on the back side. To fasten the sheet I started by stapling the center of each side. I left the size long to be trimmed later (you'll appreciate having the extra material to grab when stretching it). I gave the sheet a wash, spread it across the batting, and ironed it thoroughly. I picked up a neutral colored, 850 thread count, king size for about $40 from a clearance rack. Even more importantly, make sure the sheet doesn't have any decorative stitching or textured patterns to it. A high thread count is important, so it pays to shop around for a bargain on a top-notch sheet. Even though you'll be putting several coats of paint, you want the smoothest surface you can get. That brings us to the most important step, the projection surface itself. Not only that, but the trim around the frame will add about 5" to the width, leaving me with just a couple of inches of width left on each side in my space. That's still 110" diag for a 16:9 screen so it's plenty large. Given the building material factors I sized down from an initial 100" wide to 96" wide. Lumber and paneling is easiest to get in 8' lengths and king size sheets are only good for about 100" wide. What I will point out is that you want to consider your building materials as you pick a screen size. There's a bunch of great web pages on choosing a screen size, so I won't go into all that. Then you need to consider the aspect ratio of the screen (4:3, 16:9, 2.35:1). You should also consider your seating distance, and how that impacts viewing angle and pixel visibility. This of course is a factor of where your projector is located, its zoom range, your room layout and so on. If you're looking at making a screen, you're already under a certain set of constraints like the size of picture your projector can throw. For more information, visit ul.While not really part of the building process, I thought I'd start here since it can take a fair amount of thought and can greatly influence the building materials you use. It is certified to GREENGUARD standards for low chemical emissions into indoor air during product usage.

Ubuntu download for virtualbox1/31/2024 wget -q -O- | sudo apt-key add - wget -q -O- | sudo apt-key add. This ensures your downloaded package hasn’t been tampered with. Add VirtualBox Repositoryīefore you can use the official VirtualBox repository you should install the keys for it. If you want want to run more recent versions of VirtualBox you will need to add the official VirtualBox repository to your repository list. Major and minor releases do not make their way to Ubuntu’s or Debian’s package repositories. A great goal for promoting an operating system for production use, it also means the packages available on receive bug and security patches. While this is convenient, Ubuntu and Debian pride themselves on building stable operating systems. To install it, run the following command. VirtualBox 6.1 is available directly from the Ubuntu 20.04 package repository. This provides you with access to every VirtualBox release, as well as their extension packs. The best method for installing VirtualBox on Ubuntu is directly from the official Debian repository. Vagrant, a tool used to create and run preconfigured operating systems is heavily used with VirtualBox, as is Minikube, the most popular local Kubernetes environment for developers. So popular is Virtualbox that a lot of DevOps workflows are based on it, as well as local Kubernetes environments. Virtualbox is a very popular open source hypervisor, primarily due to it being free and very powerful. In this tutorial, you will learn how to install VirtualBox 7 on Ubuntu 20.04.

Supercollider trailer1/31/2024 Life there seems caught in a perpetual loop even without the help of ❻ig Rick¿. This script made Sparkle Creek, WI come to life in all its bucolic mediocrity. First, I like a story that transports me to a setting where the authors make me feel and understand the world their story is set in. Superconductor did a couple of things right away that made me enjoy it. These thin comparisons should clue you in to what Superconductor is trying to be. Superconductor even played at times like a comic version of The Mothman Prophecies. The latter half reminded me of a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode where the Enterprise gets caught in a loop in the space/time continuum and the crew keeps repeating the same mistakes until they ¿remember¿ how to break free. The first half of the story reminded me of that Simpsons episode where the town of Springfield is duped into building a shoddy monorail system. Superconductor is one part sci-fi comedy and one part unlikely romance. There¿s far more to the story than just that. Howard and Karen, who¿ve fallen for each other by now, must now team-up to save the town from an increasingly invasive Department of Energy. Unfortunately, Big Rick is needed in order to undo the damage already done to Sparkle Creek. Peeved that his orderly life has been interrupted by the goings-on in Sparkle Creek, and fearing lawsuits as a result of the havoc caused by Big Rick, the Undersecretary vows to shut the project down and cut the government¿s losses. comes the blandest, most efficient, and obnoxious bureaucrat ever seen, the (unnamed) Appropriations Undersecretary of the United States of America (or just the Undersecretary). (Everything located outside the superconductor¿s radius is left untouched, however.)The hysteria caused by ❻ig Rick¿ prompts the story¿s villain to arrive in town. Suffice to say that ❻ig Rick¿ unleashes some very wacky and awesome happenings upon Sparkle Creek, such as: ripples in the space/time continuum, inter-dimensional portals, and fluctuations in the town¿s gravity. I also remain a little baffled by all the (faux?) techno-jargon Howard described it with. ❻ig Rick¿ is a huge particle accelerator that allows scientists to study the origin of the universe, or as Heywood puts it, the ¿Unifying Theory of Everything.¿ That¿s a vague description of ❻ig Rick¿ but I don't want to spoil anything. This project, funded by the Department of Energy, is dubbed ❻ig Rick¿. TekCom has now begun testing a miles-wide ¿supercolliding superconductor¿ they¿ve constructed underneath Sparkle Creek, which accounts for the recent oddities. When strange happenings begin occurring around town (such as all radio and TV waves suddenly and temporarily becoming visible!), the secret goings-on at TekCom are exposed and all hell subsequently breaks loose in Sparkle Creek. That bicyclist is Howard Heywood.Howard is an eccentric, vulnerable, and brilliant scientist who also runs TekCom, the local egghead factory. Her boring life changes the day she accidentally hits a bicyclist at a crossroads. There are only two cops in this small town and Karen¿s the top one. (a good part for the likes of Paul Giamatti). She's recently gotten back together with her on-again, off-again fiancee Bob Kugelmas, Jr. Karen still lives with her dad Mitch, a contractor and die-hard Packers fan. Sparkle Creek is a mundane little community whose inhabitants are united by their obsessive devotion to the Green Bay Packers there seems to be little else to get excited about. The main characters are town sheriff Karen Green (a good role for either Helen Hunt or Holly Hunter) and boyishly exuberant scientist Howard Heywood (I can see Nicolas Cage in this role). The Superconducting Supercollider of Sparkle Creek, Wisconsin is a comedic fantasy about a rustic Wisconsin town that¿s turned upside down (almost literally) when a massive invention is discovered to have been built underneath it. There are currently no actors attached to star and no production start date has been announced. Buena Vista is the studio behind this project, which will be produced by Gavin Polone and director Barry Sonnenfeld ( Men in Black, Wild Wild West). Koepp will also direct Superconductor he previously helmed Stir of Echoes and The Trigger Effect. Koepp alone will make $2.5 million dollars plus an additional $750,000 he also has a back-end deal that includes a deferment of $1.25 million so he¿ll make a bundle off this puppy. This high-profile spec script sold a few months back, netting the writers a multimillion-dollar payday. Screenwriter-director David Koepp Stax here with my reaction to the screenplay for The Superconducting Supercollider of Sparkle Creek, Wisconsin! This 126-page draft dated January 9th, 2001 is by Wisconsin natives David Koepp ( Spider-Man, Jurassic Park) and John Kamps ( The Borrowers).

Heroes of might and magic v 5.51/31/2024 We wanted create a lively world with many details and for it to have a medieval flavor, with bright colors, shiny items, bold heroes, fearless units, and impressive towns. The game must be recognized as a Heroes game at first look. We want to update the look of the series, while keeping the core principles of its rules. So, all in all, I believe we are making a real step forward. There is a mode where you will be able to play, even when it’s not your turn to play! This is a revolutionary mode for turn-based games. In other areas, we stayed true to the tradition: stacks, resources, turn structure, etc…įinally, in the great realm of multiplayer gameplay, there will be a lot of new features. There are also many small elements in battles that will increase the tactical choices. Battles, for instance, can be played in turn-based or in dynamic mode. Most of them will be optional so you can play the game the way you like. We also added some new elements, of course. For instance, we were faced with the question of “to be or to not to be on the battlefield” for heroes, so we designed an intermediate solution where they can enter the field to do specific actions. In other cases, the debate raged for a long time before we reached a solution that was balanced and understandable. In many cases-like with 3D, towns, world, scenario, campaign, and others, we made huge improvements for the new game. We looked at how things were handled in previous games to see if there was a way to make it more interesting and if there was room for improvement. Both games have good ideas, and neither completely takes the lead over the other.Įarly in the production we discussed where we wanted to go with the gameplay. The fan community is clearly divided between Heroes 3 and Heroes 4. No, this is Heroes of Might and Magic V in 3D?. Not seeing some interface or lengthy text doesn’t mean the inner structure was simplified, just that it will be easier to navigate in the game. It also means working on the game ergonomics and making multiplayer faster to play. We’re working on a tutorial to help new players get up to speed (precisely because this game has a great deal of depth), along with a detailed world and intricate storyline. The fact is that we’re making a game that is easier to access, and faster to play. The truth is that the game is not being simplified compared to previous versions. I understand that fans have concerns about Heroes gameplay that they have enjoyed in the past. Though we’ve never said that we were simplifying the game, I’ve read this in some forums. The other reason is that we wanted to create a deep and dense world, in which we would be able to ensure better continuity-starting with Heroes of Might & Magic V - and decide what goes on in the world or in the scenario. The main reason for creating a new world is to avoid any mistakes or inconsistencies with previous titles: there wasn’t a complete bible for the old Might and Magic universe and because we were missing information, we would have run the risk of making critical errors in recreating the old universe. There are quite a few people here dedicated to the crafting and rebirth of the Might and Magic world. This is really a huge investment, and, I think, a testimony of Ubisoft’s involvement in the license. We decided to create a completely new world, so we know and can control all aspects about it. What will happen with the old Might & Magic world? What you can expect in the remaining four towns is a completely new one and a bit of shake-up. There are six towns in the game, two of which were revealed at E3: humans and demons. We are bringing many great improvements to the game, and our priority is to make the right decisions and implement them, so we want to make sure we don’t talk about features that might never make their way to the final product. Because it’s still so early, we want to make sure that we communicate confirmed game information and features. Since the game was announced in March, we’ve been working very hard on developing the game, trying out new ideas and testing features. There hasn’t been a lot of information revealed so far about the game since it was announced, will there be more information soon? It is targeted primarily to fans, who raised a number of questions regarding the current development status, and was designed with the help of community leaders. This FAQ is intended to clarify current information on Heroes of Might & Magic V.

Sequential transmission1/31/2024 The full video goes into much more detail, so if you've got a few minutes to kill, it's certainly worth a watch. Shift cut (up and/or down shifts) with feedback to abort. That's why you don't see many sequential gearboxes used in street cars. Regular sequential gearbox (with analog gear position sensor) + strain gauge (shift force sensor). The downside is that it's a lot less smooth, extremely loud, and requires the transmission to be rebuilt after just a few thousand miles. It also uses dog teeth connectors instead of synchronizers to get from one gear to another, forcing the gears together instead of smoothly transitioning from one to another. Sequential gearbox ( transmission ) is generic name of AMT, peddle shifter, F1 motorcycle transmission. Unlike a dual-clutch, which uses helical-style gears, a sequential has straight-cut gears, meaning less power loss traveling through the transmission into the axles. Paired with a lighter flywheel, that means less rotating mass for the engine to spin. The sequential also has fewer gear shafts to spin-just two versus three for the dual-clutch. sequential gearbox Nissan 350Z is greatly needed unit for racecars with VQ35 engines., suitable for drift, track, dragrace and any other application. Most motorcycles also feature this transmission type, hence the upshift and downshift buttons. Most motorcycles (except scooters) change gears (of which they increasingly have five or six) by a foot-shift lever. The sequential gearbox design is relatively simple and grants fast shifting, which is why it is quite popular in motorsport applications. Including the flywheel and clutch, the sequential weighs nearly 100 pounds less than the DSG, which is a huge amount for a race car. Most manual transmission two-wheelers use a sequential gearbox. Nate Vincent of FCP Euro put together a great video comparing his GTI TCR race car's old DSG dual-clutch transmission to a new sequential transmission that his team will use for the 2019 season. But when it comes to actual racing, they're still not the gearbox of choice. They provide the best of both worlds, providing smooth automatic operation in normal driving, and lightning-fast gear changes while going flat-out. They're used in everything from hot hatches to the latest, greatest hypercars. In the past decade, dual-clutch transmissions have come to dominate the performance car market. Quaife Engineering has introduced a sequential 5-speed transmission for the K-Series Honda Civic and is now available for order exclusively through Motovicity in the United States.

The maze runner 21/31/2024 The series, revealing details in non-chronological order, tells how the world was devastated by a series of massive solar flares and coronal mass ejections. The sixth novel, titled The Maze Cutter, set 73 years following the events of The Death Cure, was released on October 4th, 2022. The series consists of The Maze Runner (2009), The Scorch Trials (2010) and The Death Cure (2011), as well as two prequel novels, The Kill Order (2012) and The Fever Code (2016), a novella titled Crank Palace (2020), and a companion book titled The Maze Runner Files (2013). The Maze Runner is a series of young adult dystopian science fiction novels written by American author James Dashner. The Scorch Trials was adapted onto the big screen in 2015, which you can read my Book vs.Print ( hardcover and paperback), audiobook, e-book We knew that Thomas’ visions were memories from the first novel, but as more and more is revealed with the amount of times that Thomas is left unconscious, it becomes a little tedious at times.Īside from that, The Scorch Trials is another impressive young adult dystopia, filled with dark tones, character struggles, and relationship tests, which all ensure that this is a novel that you won’t want to put down. Thomas passes out at the end of almost every chapter, and we are somewhat undermined as intelligent readers as the novel constantly questions whether his visions are memories or just dreams. There are new technologically advanced monsters, personal tests of humanity, and struggles against a world which is controlled by others, which all keep the pace up, the scares coming, and the readers on edge.īut The Scorch Trials does become quite repetitive at times. The novels are incredibly fun to read, with a new twist springing up in every chapter to keep you excited and engaged. Just like the first novel, The Scorch Trials is full of adventure, action and anticipation. Through these people and a number of visions that Thomas has, we slowly start to piece together what is happening, as WCKD’s intentions start to become a little clearer. Here, the Gladers meet some of the survivors of the apocalypse, who have been sent to Scorch because of their infection. As the Gladers head for ‘safety’ by their rescuers, a night’s sleep and an over-indulgence of food is all they get until they realise that maze was nothing in comparison to what’s coming next, as they are attacked by aggressive zombie-like people called Cranks, who have been affected by a plague known as “The Flare”.Īs ordered by WCKD, the Gladers enter into the Scorch, a desert landscape that was once a city before sun flares destroyed Earth’s surface. The Scorch Trials gives us our first glimpse into the outside world. You can read my review of the film adaptation in comparison to the book here. Rating: The following post is a review of the book only. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD, only to uncover the shocking plans that WCKD has had planned for them all along. As the Gladers search for clues about the mysterious and powerful organisation known as WCKD, their journey takes them to the Scorch, a desolate landscape that was once a major city, now scorched to the ground and consumed by a disease known as the Flare. On being told that the Gladers are being taken to safety, the truth quickly becomes apparent that the maze was only the beginning. The second book in James Dashner‘s The Maze Runner trilogy, The Scorch Trials, originally published in 2010, follows Thomas and the rest of the Gladers after their escape from the maze in the The Maze Runner. All he wanted was to survive, make it to that building, get inside. The chaos around him seemed to syphon away his humanity, turn him into an animal. “He didn’t care about the others anymore.

North by night book summary1/31/2024 Sheldon is an arm’s length from his granddaughter, Rhea, and her new husband, Lars, who is just now taking a long pull on his own beer and is looking so cheerful, so kind, so peppy, that Sheldon wants to take the hot dog from his hand and insert it up his nose. Sheldon will not admit it to Rhea and Lars-never, of course not-but he can’t help wondering what he’s doing here and what he’s going to do about it before the wonderment passes. His feet twitch back and forth like a schoolboy’s, but they twitch slower now at the age of eighty-two. With his right index finger, he’s playing with the condensation on a bottle of beer that he started to drink but lost interest in some time ago. There is a half-eaten karbonade sandwich that he doesn’t like on the paper plate cradled in his lap. Sheldon Horowitz sits on a folding director’s chair, high above the picnic and out of reach of the food, in a shaded enclave in Oslo’s Frogner Park. Norwegian by Night introduces an ensemble of unforgettable characters-Sheldon and the boy, Rhea and Lars, a Balkan war criminal named Enver, and Sigrid and Petter, the brilliantly dry-witted investigating officers-as they chase one another, and their own demons, through the wilderness at the end of the world. As Sheldon and the boy look for a haven in an alien world, reality and fantasy, past and present, weave together, forcing them ever forward to a wrenching moment of truth. He is haunted by dreams of his son Saul’s life and by guilt over his death. But old age and circumstances are altering Sheldon’s experience of time and memory. When events turn dire, Sheldon seizes and shields the neighbor’s young son from the violence, and they flee the scene. Home alone one morning, Sheldon witnesses a dispute between the woman who lives upstairs and an aggressive stranger. Sheldon Horowitz-widowed, impatient, impertinent-has grudgingly agreed to leave New York and move in with his granddaughter, Rhea, and her new husband, Lars, in Norway: a country of blue and ice with one thousand Jews, not one of them a former Marine sniper in the Korean War turned watch repairman, who failed his only son by sending him to Vietnam to die.
